The Controls Technician position is responsible for design, documentation, programing, testing, continuous improvement, and helping other team members improve their skills in electrical controls.
The Controls Technician position is located in Olive Branch, MS.
You’ll be excited about this opportunity because you will:
- Design PLC Control/ Power Panels utilizing AutoCAD for panel layout and electrical wiring diagrams and make panel component selection.
- Create BOM's for the panels.
- Create, develop, and document PLC programs for industrial environment using Ladder Logic.
- Create and read logic and flow diagrams for program design, programming, simulation and testing, start-up, and debug systems.
- Program Human Machine Interface (HMI) Graphic Screens for industrial projects.
- Develop and implement standard engineering practices, as well as provide detailed documentation upon project completion.
- Develop Scope of Work (SOW), cost estimates both internally and externally.
- Consult with In-house production personnel to troubleshoot electrical/programming-related issues.
- Provide technical support, problem-solving, maintenance, modifications, and continuous Improvement using best practices for automated systems.
- Provide direct assistance to employees and contractors to train/troubleshoot electrical/programming issues remotely, as well as in the field, at times.
- Experience with Rockwell Software Studio5000 and Factory Talk View required.
- Development of specification for procurement and design of electrical control systems (ECS).
- Experience with at least 1 other PLC platform preferred.
- Experience with Rockwell Software, Connected Components Workbench or FactoryTalk Platforms preferred.
- Experience with Wonderware HMI software preferred.
- Implementing PLC programming for optimized production and energy savings through continuous improvement of processes and equipment reliability (including planning path for updates, upgrades).
- Training other engineers and technicians.
- Developing standard operating procedures.
- Knowledge of ARC Flash safety requirements and NFPA 7OE.
- Other duties may be assigned.

- High School Diploma or Equivalent.
- At least 3-5 years’ experience in a Controls Technician position.
- Proven ability to Create, develop, and document PLC programs for industrial environment using Ladder Logic.
- Demonstrated ability to create, read, and understand electrical wiring diagrams.
- Experienced with Rockwell Software Studio5000/ RSlogix500 and 5000 required.
- Good time management and project management skills to organize and plan effectively in developing high quality systems, budgets, and processes.
- Proven electrical troubleshooting skills both remotely and on- site.
- Proven results-oriented and "hands-on" approach.
- Demonstrated strong organization skills, strong customer focus, and orientation.
- Proven experience working across trades effectively.
- Knowledge of industrial control systems protocol (TCP/IP, Ethernet IP, Devicenet, Control-Net, Profibus, etc.) and controls networking principles and/or training.
- Strong technical and analytical proficiency with the ability to multi-task effectively and thrive in a team environment.
- Results-oriented and 'hands-on approach.
- Possess strong organization skills, strong customer focus, and orientation.
- Excellent communication skills -oral & written.
- Solid working knowledge of MS Office products including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Ability to travel (10-15% per year).
- Understanding of power distribution requirements.
We prefer some of these qualities as well:
- Associate’s Degree (EE, EET, or Mechatronics) or equivalent from an accredited college, technical school.
- Demonstrated experience with design and implementation isolated and/or small-scale systems.
- Recommend changes to equipment or processes.
- Establish and recommend changes to equipment or processes which affect other team members or efficiency of equipment.
- Involved in developing, modifying, and executing company processes, which affect immediate operation(s) and may also have organization-wide effect.
Review these physical requirements, as they play a major part in this role:
- Occasionally exposed to work that requires repetitive motion. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
- Repetitive bending, crouching, kneeling, reaching, twisting, sitting, standing, and walking.
- Lifting parts and tools weighing on average 20 pounds, occasionally weighing up to 80 pounds.
- Dexterity in eye/hand coordination, feet (foot pedals) manual (picking, pinching, holding, grasping), and wrist motion (repetitive flexion/rotation).
- Working conditions may include small spaces, dust, fumes/odors, hot/cold temperatures, inside/outside noise, vibration, standing on concrete for long hours and wet or uneven surfaces.
